Set Up a New Agency

On the illumin platform, agencies are your campaign-building HQ. An agency is the top-level organization that holds everything together. Licensee admins manage agencies, and each agency can contain one or more advertisers.

Advertisers represent individual brands or clients. Admins with the right permissions use advertisers to create, organize, and launch campaigns. Whether you plan to manage a single advertiser or an entire roster, the agency acts as the foundation. Think of it as the blueprint that keeps your campaigns structured and scalable.

Creating an agency

To create a new agency, or update an existing one, go to the top right corner and click the gear icon in the menu bar. The Settings page displays.

On the Settings page, scroll down to the Agencies tab and click Edit

Click New Agency. Fill in the form (see below), and click Save & Next. Optionally, click a pencil icon to review or update settings for an existing advertiser.

Filling in the form fields
  1. Enter an agency name.
  2. Enter a display name. (optional) If blank, the field defaults to the agency name.
  3. Enter address, contact, and time zone information.
  4. Confirm the default advertiser currency setting (i.e. All Currencies) or select a specific currency.

The time zone usually reflects where the core team works. If your team operates remotely, you can select the company’s official head office location or keep the default Eastern Time. For example, companies based in California typically select Pacific Time.

Targeting (optional)

After you save the General Details form, the Targeting page appears. This optional feature lets you upload inventory lists and decide which inventory is allowed or blocked for journeys under this agency. It gives you precise control over where ads can appear. After uploading your lists, they become available in the targeting section of each journey. You can also skip this step and configure targeting later.

When finished, click Finish to close the setup wizard. After saving the agency, illumin adds a record to the table.

FAQs

What is an agency in the illumin platform?

An agency is the top-level organization that holds advertisers, campaigns, and shared settings. It defines structure, permissions, currency defaults, and targeting rules, which makes it the foundation for scalable campaign management across multiple advertisers.

Who can create or edit an agency?

Only licensee admins can create or edit agencies. These users manage agency-level settings such as time zone, currency, and inventory targeting, which directly affect how advertisers and journeys operate within the platform.

How does an agency affect advertiser setup?

Every advertiser must live inside an agency. The agency sets shared rules and defaults, while advertisers represent individual brands or clients that launch campaigns. Incorrect agency setup often explains issues such as a journey not spending.

Why does agency time zone and currency matter?

Agency time zone controls reporting cutoffs and pacing logic, while currency defines financial consistency across advertisers. Incorrect settings can cause confusion in reporting or budget interpretation, even when campaigns deliver impressions correctly.

What is agency-level targeting and when should marketers use it?

Agency-level targeting controls allowed or blocked inventory for all journeys under that agency. Marketers use it when they need centralized control over where ads can appear, rather than setting inventory rules campaign by campaign.
